International call - The Pole to Pole Leadership Institute calls female Africans between the ages of 18-28 to become a part of an initiative like no other ever undertaken. The Institute has launched a 'Call for Applicants' for its second epic all human powered Journey - from the South Pole to the North Pole, via Africa and Europe - and is specifically looking for African applicants to be involved. This is an inspiring and empowering project for our leaders of tomorrow and the Institute would love to have representatives from Africa to be part of it. Applicants will have the opportunity to become involved in 1 of 4 Pole to Pole teams: - Expedition Team - In November 2007, 2 teams of 12 young people, from around the globe, will spend 18-months trekking, sailing and biking from the North Pole to the South Pole, in the first ever all human-powered expedition of this magnitude. The first team will set off from the South Pole, journey through the Southern Hemisphere, and hand-off to the second team on the equator at the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, who will then journey to the North Pole. - Advanced Teams - These Teams will meet up with the Expedition Team along its epic journey and will spend six to eight months volunteering with established charitable organizations on critical humanitarian projects in that area. Projects such as Wildlife conservation in Africa, helping AIDS orphans, and addressing Climate Change. - Education Team - This team will travel throughout North America and Europe using the on-going adventures along the journey as leadership lessons, and real-life demonstrations of overcoming incredible challenges. The Team will use the Advance Team's charitable work as real-life examples of youth taking-on the critical issues of our times, drawing the connection to local charitable programs they can become involved within their own communities. - Virtual Team - This Team will follow the Expedition and Advance Teams live via the Internet, whilst receiving online training in leadership and social involvement. They will also be responsible for setting-up and running charitable programs in their local communities, translating to their local communities the lessons learned from the other Teams. The overall mission of Pole to Pole is to inspire youth from around Africa, and the World, to become community leaders and take on the critical issues of our time, both locally and globally.
