Okay so we ALL drive cars and we ALL know just how bad traffic is already around Johannesburg and Pretoria, so when you see the Government Notices issued by SANRAL you will be sure to say they have got rocks in their heads. This really does affect everyone and it is your civil duty to comment on these “proposed” toll roads before the 14th of November 2007 in writing. Please note that I have detailed below each separate project, it’s affected highway and off-ramps and have included the relevant fax and contact details for each separate project as they do differ (probably in order to confuse the public).

It is of utmost importance that you print the attached notices which show in detail all the projects with their maps but you can also refer to the list summarised list below for ease. If South African’s are going to roll over on command like little sheep then you can expect this to go ahead along with many other new plans the government has for getting YOUR money from YOU and making YOUR life a misery at the same time. Do not expect that someone else is going to write in so it just excuses you, it does not, do not expect others to do everything on your behalf. Forward this web site link to everyone you know and make time to send in your comments regarding these projects.

Please Note: After speaking with SANRAL they have clarified to me that these are not physical toll booths they are called Gantry's and are actually concrete structures, much like billboards, which cross over the highways. Motorists are then required to have an electronic disc which is paid for in advance. Each time you pass under one of these gantry's it is electronically recorded against your account. While this slightly clears up the issue of traffic chaos (except during construction) it still does not clear up the issue of costs to motorists, information which I am still trying to obtain from SANRAL. On a drive between Germiston and Pretoria you would pass through 10+ Gantry's. I am still trying to get estimated costs from SANRAL. The entire project however is estimated at R22 Billion.

The problem PT is that our taxes have already paid for these roads and we are severely overtaxed already. As far as proposing taxes be set up that are reasonable, when in the last 17 years have you ever had the ANC listen to what you have to say? They always go ahead and do as they please. They hold public consultation processes as a mere formality and then still go ahead with their original intentions. This continuation of a new tax being introduced every other month is KILLING this economy.

Listen people, rehabilitation of the roads and ongoing paving of unpaved roads. The determining factor of whether the charging is reasonable is a very complicated topic, and needs to be approached on a known framework to both parties, in-favour and against!

If the charges are to high then by all means go on strike!

If the charges are REASONABLE than, you should look at it from the perspective of, "pay as you use the road"..........the money collected is ploughed back into the road transportation sector of the country......by the way, your life depends to a great extent on the transportation system, it holds the very same economy that you all claim to care about together......failure to maintain it will be the end of your economy. Then you will have nothing to complain about......

Its about high time that you start realising that things have become expensive and maintaining a road transportation system is a costly exercise.......imagine what your country would be like without any tarred roads??

(1) You will be spending more time on repairs and maintenance of your vehicle.

(2) You will get to work late....productivity goes down with revenue.

(3) The output of public and private companies will not be able to sustain your economy.

(4) Un-safe roads.....more accidents, reduces GDP of the country.

(5) The region (country), becomes un-attractive to foreign investment.

"do you want me to go on??"

You will be doing more harm then good by striking.

SOLUTION:

Propose that charges be set up that are reasonable, ensure that the mopney collected is entirely ploughed back into your road transportation system..SIMPLE!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Taxes and Open Road Toll Fees

People should not install the transponders but still use the highways and force the government to issue accounts and summonses to all motorists until such time they drop the prices. The government will be forced to send out millions of accounts every month and they don't have the man power to do it. This is the best and easiest way to boycott the system. What is the government going to do about motorists from other neighbouring countries that don't have these transponders?

South Africans are too complacent and its time we fight back. WE have paid for these roads. Now they are also proposing a 1% tax to fund SABC.

Circulate this to all your friends!!!!!!!!

Has anyone thought just how much tax we are already paying?

a. 35% on your salary
b.14% on everything you buy (bar fresh produce) and services rendered.
c. Carbon tax if you buy a new car (besides the 14% VAT you have to pay)
d. Tax on the fuel you put in your car to run it.
e. Toll on our roads – and for some it is going to come to a whopper of 10% of your salary (If you earn R10 000.00 a R1 000 would go toward tolling if you migrate between PTA and JHB every day.) – Bully to try and pacify me with the idea that I can claim it back from my income tax!!! I have to fork out the money first. Going on holiday to DBN? Remember to save up your R1000.00 for tolling.

To say the least – For every R10.00 you earn, the government is already taking approx R6.00 and still they want more. Are you happy with the R4.00 you are getting?

NICE!!!!!

When are we going to get up and do something about it? Where is all the money going to? It is definitely not being spent on what it should be – our hospitals are in a state of disrepair, our schools in shambles, our roads full of potholes, our water contaminated, sewers not working, left in the dark because Eskom failed to do their upgrades, the poor are poorer still, municipalities on the brink of collapse, and so the list goes on.

Heard about oilgate?
Heard about the arms scandal?
Heard about the youth day celebration that cost R100 million? Mmmm... did you pay for it?
Oh yes sir/madam you did! R100 million that could have paid for a couple of things our country needed more.

And to put the numbers in perspective:

The next time you hear an SA politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you wanted the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its press releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion Rand ago was only 27 hours and 12 minutes at the rate our SA government is spending it.

Cigarette Tax
VAT
Fishing Licence Tax
Food Licence Tax
Fuel LicenceTax
Hunting Licence Tax
Service charge taxes
Capital gains Tax
Road Usage Tax
Local Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 20 years ago...
And our nation was one of the most prosperous in Africa.
We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in Africa And Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What the HELL happened ?

ANSWER :
Look at the Government.....and it is 'running' the country....
INTO THE GROUND - on YOUR and MY 'billions'!!!
I hope this goes around At least a billion times

Why do you not start by replacing the existing toll roads with the new system?

Oh Hazy, you really must be "hazy in the brain" ... CLEARLY you're a government worker aren't you? Who else would come up with such a ridiculous comment.

Nice try in posting a positive comment but your silly lilttle comment is drowned in negativity which is the predominent public sentiment.

I THINK ITS ALL FAIR THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR TOLLING ON THE ROADS AS THIS WOULD REDUCE TRAFFIC ,AND BESIDES WE ARE PAYING FOR OUR ROADS TO BE WELL IMPROVED AS THIS WIL RESULT TO LESS ACCIDENTS SINCE OUR ROADS WOULD BE WELL TAKEN CARE OFF AND ITS NOT LIKE THERE ARE ASKING FOR A LOT FROM US ROAD USERS ITS JUST A CONTRIBUTION THAT IS NOT EVEN MORE THAN R1 PER GUNTREE SO PEOPLE STOP COMPLAINING FOR NOTHING

I feel that the Government is not helping us at all but wants us to get even MORE POORER. We are taxed every month, imagine now we have to pay toll gates. We do not want them I feel that, we as fellow brothers and sisters need to act against.
